Slowly away - lost many lengths start - in rear - going easily and waiting for room over 2f out - some headway then not clear run over 1f out - kept on inside final furlong (inquiry into running and riding; jockey said that instructions were to drop gelding in and find cover knowing that he had shown tendencies of over racing in his previous starts; he said that gelding had jumped slowly from stalls and became further detached than anticipated but - due to slow pace of race - was quickly able to recover and become back in contention by joining field in the rear; he said that approximately 3f out he was expecting clearer running and became inconvenienced by weakening runners and as a result was unable to mount his challenge until shortly after entering home straight at which point the first three horses had already kicked for home and lengthened the margin between themselves and the remainder of field; he added that approximately 1 1/2f out he suffered interference from two runners who checked him in his run before being able to fully ride out gelding to line; trainer agreed that those were instructions but stated he was disappointed in that gelding had encountered several incidents of trouble in running which had allowed race to get away from gelding)(op 9/4 tchd 11/5)
