Took keen hold - pressed leader - weakened before 3 out (inquiry into running and riding; jockey said that his instructions were to get gelding to settle as best as he could having run freely on his previous run when he failed to get home; having jumped off with leaders and taken 1st hurdle well - he explained that he decided to allow gelding to maintain a prominent position where he thought gelding may settle; however when upsides a rival he began to race keenly - which he reported at scales - until settling down back straight and continued to jump well until making a mistake at 4th last; in explaining his riding over the latter stages - he stated that although he was happy with way gelding was travelling until home straight - gelding quickly emptied so - in an effort to get him home - he decided to hold him together which he felt was justified when gelding made mistakes at last two hurdles; in summary - he thought that although gelding was an ex-pointer - he was still on the weak side and with his tendency to run freely - it would be best policy to keep him to 2m but apply a hood to help him to settle; his explanation was noted; vet had nothing to report)(op 100/1)
