18:50 Kempton – Back Skimmer @ 7/4 1.5pt
This is a good race, but Skimmer was ultra-impressive on his debut in April at Leicester, and there’s a good chance, given his pedigree, that he can back that up on the AW surface.
He comes from an excellent family, which includes a Logician, and four of his siblings went on to record RPR ratings of 112 plus, with the lowest 90. Even the lower end of the scale will be good enough to win this, even with his penalty, and the fact that Colin Keane is here to ride speaks volumes following his 74-day break. His April form has worked out well. The runner-up is a recent winner rated 85, the third is rated 89, and the fourth and fifth are subsequent winners rated 87 and 88.
Everything about him at Leicester screamed potential top-class horse, and it will take more than the wide draw and a penalty to stop him in this contest. I’d be very surprised if he were beaten and rates the day’s best bet at 6/4 or bigger.
