23/10/2025 No Thursday selections: Weather frustrates!
The weather is set to turn dire on Thursday. Therefore, it’s wise that we hold on to any cash and wait for the many opportunities that Friday offers.
It was half tempting to weigh in with Histrionic in the 15:07 at Ludlow, before realising that Lorcan Williams is on and Harry Cobden heads to Fontwell. That was enough to prick my ears and look to Fontwell, where he is there for Maldino Milano and Emma Lavelle’s useful and well-handicapped George’s Lad. Both appeal on a normal day, but with the rain due at Fontwell, it can turn the track to soup! And in turn, throw up strange results.
The 16:22 was the closest I came to a bet with Nara, who must get her jumping together to really progress. Despite that, she had a good year last term, which included a Grade 2 victory and a runner-up effort, and the five-year-old is entitled to improve again in this discipline.
She looked excellent when on song last year, but I strongly suspect that with rain due, Chepstow winner Speclatrix will be a non-runner. That will leave us with a hefty R4 and a massive odds-on shot who has frailties in the jumping department—not my idea of a comfortable watch.
Therefore, as disappointing as it is, we must be patient and wait for Friday. I hope you understand; I don’t want us to waste money in unpredictable weather conditions at this time of year—it’s a disaster waiting to happen.
